The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) has opened its FY26 discretionary grant funding cycle, with applications now being accepted from U.S. libraries and museums. IMLS is the primary source of federal funding for libraries and supports projects focused on professional development, service improvement, and national leadership.
If you’ve applied to IMLS in the past, you’ll notice some changes this year. The FY26 cycle employs a single-phase application process, requiring all National Leadership Grants (NLG) and Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian (LB21) applicants to submit a full proposal. Be sure to read the NOFO cover letter carefully to confirm your project aligns with current IMLS priorities before applying.
