The Carol June Bradley Award for Historical Research in Music Librarianship, established by the Music Library Association in 2003, honors Dr. Carol June Bradley (1934–2009), a music librarian known for her leadership, scholarship, and work at institutions like the University of Buffalo.
One award of up to $500 annually is offered to support research-in-progress in music librarianship or music libraries. This award is open to individuals regardless of age, nationality, profession, or affiliation. All proposals are evaluated on their merit. Winners are typically announced at the MLA’s Annual Meeting.
Eligible expenses must directly support the research project and may include: travel for research or interviews, fees for services like transcription or data analysis, and project-specific costs such as short-term software licenses, equipment rental, or postage.
To apply, email Committee Chair Laura Jacyna (jacynal@brandonu.ca) with a project summary, detailed budget, CV, and arrange for two recommendation letters to be sent directly by the letter writers. Additional materials may be requested.
