2026 AARP Community Challenge Grants

Deadline: March 4, 2026, 5:00 p.m. Eastern
Funder: AARP
Eligibility: Nonprofits, local government entities, and other organizations on a case-by-case basis
Funding purpose: Quick-action projects that improve community livability, with a focus on the needs of people 50 and older
Grant amounts: $2,500 to $25,000 (depending on grant type)

Funded projects may address initiatives such as improving public spaces, programming, transportation, digital connections, broadband access/adoption, as well as disaster resilience.

In 2026, AARP is doubling its annual investment and plans to award more than $8 million in grants. There are three funding opportunities this year: 
  • Flagship Grants (up to $15,000)
  • Capacity-Building Microgrants ($2,500, plus technical support and cohort learning)
  • Demonstration Grants (typically $10,000–$20,000, up to $25,000)
